Tasting notes

Château Pétrus, from Pomerol in Bordeaux, is all about Merlot. While Bordeaux often brings Cabernet Sauvignon to mind, this one lets Merlot shine. The 1990 vintage is particularly outstanding, making it worth opening a bottle.

This wine appears in the 9th volume of 'Kami no Shizuku' where Shizuku and the others pitted it against Poupille in a blind tasting competition. It's quite something to be used in such a memorable scene, isn't it? You can almost see Shizuku's amazement.

Pouring it into a glass, you see a deep garnet color. Tilt the glass a bit, and you'll notice an orange rim, a sign of its maturity. The aroma is incredibly complex, with notes of dried plum and black cherry, and a hint of black tea and forest floor in the background.

On the palate, it's as smooth as silk, with dense tannins. The acidity is lively, keeping the whole wine in check. The finish is long, giving you a moment where time feels like it stands still. I recommend enjoying it in a large glass, savoring the depth slowly.
