Tasting notes
Château Le Pin got its start when Jacques Thienpont bought this tiny vineyard back in the '70s. You're holding a glass of the very first vintage from 1979, made entirely from Merlot. It's a bit of a legend among wine collectors, you know, because getting your hands on a bottle is like finding hidden treasure.
This wine makes an appearance in volume 9 of "Kami no Shizuku." In the story, it was found in a secluded cellar, and Yutaka remarks that it could transform into a great wine. It's exciting to share this moment with you, just like in that scene.
The color's a deep garnet with a brick-red rim that speaks to its age. As you swirl it around, you catch these waves of ripe blackberries and black cherries, with hints of dried herbs and tea peeking through. It tells a story of time passing.
Take a sip, and you'll find an abundance of fruit flavors spread across your palate, with tannins that are silky smooth. The acidity is rounded, keeping everything in balance. The finish is long, complex, leaving you with a satisfying aftertaste. You'd want to serve it slightly chilled in a larger glass to savor all its nuances.
