Tasting notes

Pop open the 2000 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from E. Guigal, and you'll get why this is a classic from the Rhône. Based on Grenache and Syrah, these wines are known for their boldness and complexity. After 26 years, it's really come into its own.

Remember in volume 11 of 'Drops of God' when Mishima offered this wine to Shizuku for tasting? That scene captures the essence of this bottle perfectly. Pour it into a glass, and you'll see a deep ruby color that hints at the years it's been aging.

Take a sniff, and you'll be greeted by the lush aromas of black cherries and plums, with layers of dried figs and a hint of tea, showcasing its age. On the palate, there's an expansive fruitiness, with firm tannins that envelop your mouth. The acidity is smooth, keeping everything in harmony.

The finish is long, letting you savor the depth till the last drop. Use a larger glass and let it sit at room temperature for a bit to fully enjoy its complexity.
