Tasting notes
Screaming Eagle is one of those cult wines from Oakville in California's Napa Valley that you've got to try at least once. The 2004 vintage is hailed as one of their best, and it's really something special. It's hard to get your hands on a bottle, but once you do, you'll get why there's such a fuss.
In the manga 'Drops of God', it appears in volume 22 during a scene on the Napa Valley Wine Train. Shizuku Kanzaki explains it to Laurent while they savor it together. He describes it as one of the most elegant and grand wines among the cult wines, and you know what? He's spot on. With every sip, there's something new to discover.
Pour it into a glass, and you'll see this deep garnet color that draws you in. The aroma is open, full of rich black cherry and cassis. There's a spicy note of cedar and tobacco, giving it a complex bouquet. It's like a symphony in your nose.
Take a sip, and the attack is bold with a generous fruitiness. The acidity is smooth and well-integrated. The tannins are velvety, and the finish is incredibly long. It's elegant yet has a solid structure. I'd say give it some time in the decanter to let it breathe, and you'll find even more depth in it.
