Tasting notes
Romanée-Conti is often hailed as the pinnacle of Burgundy wines, crafted meticulously by the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. It's 100% Pinot Noir, and due to its incredibly low yields, getting your hands on a bottle is like finding a rare gem. The 1940 vintage, despite being produced during wartime, has continued to captivate wine lovers with its elegance and strength.
In 'Drops of God,' Volume 27, this wine is entrusted by Yutaka to Robert, creating a memorable scene where Shizuku and Robert share it. The moment is set against a backdrop of a fiery orange sky at dawn, evoking the majestic presence of Mount Fuji. This imagery captures the vastness and grandeur that the wine itself embodies.
Pour this wine into a glass, and you'll notice a deep garnet transitioning to a brick-orange hue, speaking volumes of its age. The aroma is a complex blend of black tea, undergrowth, and hints of dried herbs. On the palate, it's silky smooth, with acidity that's mellowed and tannins that have become velvety through aging. The balance is impeccable, and the finish is long, leaving behind a lush fruitiness interwoven with intricate aromas.
To truly enjoy this masterpiece, serve it slightly chilled at around 16°C in a large glass, allowing it to slowly reveal its layers over time.
