Tasting notes
Château de Carles' 2001 Haut-Carles is a gem from Bordeaux, packed with all the region's charm. It's primarily Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. When you think Bordeaux, you think of deep flavors and rich history, right? This 2001 vintage is at a perfect stage of maturity to enjoy.
This wine appears in Volume 12 of 'The Drops of God', where Shizuku experiences its aroma on a plane. Imagine that special space—you know, where ripe plum sweetness mixes with the depth of cocoa and a hint of new oak. Drinking it while recalling that scene makes it even more special.
Pour a glass and look at that deep garnet hue—it's got that matured vibe going on. The aroma is open and expansive, with ripe plums and cocoa meeting hints of vanilla and spice from the oak. Take a sip, and the full-bodied fruitiness fills your palate, while the firm but smooth tannins linger on your tongue.
The acidity is strong, tying everything together nicely, and the finish is long, letting you enjoy the aftertaste for a good while. With its mature complexity, every sip offers something new. I'd say enjoy this at around 18°C in a slightly larger glass to get the most out of it.
