Tasting notes
This wine, Igueruela, comes from Almansa in Spain, crafted by Santa Quiteria in 2005. Almansa might not be the first place you'd think of for wine, but it's turning heads with unique bottles like this one. It's part of the Grenache family, known for its rich fruitiness and spicy character.
In the manga 'Drops of God,' there's this scene in volume 17 where Shizuku is on a flight to Switzerland and savors a glass of this wine. Both he and Issei commented on its "spicy" nature, and once you taste it, you'll understand that distinctive spice feeling. It's got this nutmeg-like, cheerful spiciness with rich, juicy fruit flavors.
In the glass, it shows a slightly brick-tinged ruby, hinting at its maturity. The aroma opens up with raspberry and black cherry, teasing your nose, followed by a festival of nutmeg and cinnamon-like spiciness. On the palate, it's smooth, with lively acidity and velvety tannins.
What's really memorable about Igueruela is its cheerful spiciness, with a finish that lingers just a bit longer. The balance of fruit and spice is just right, offering new discoveries with every sip. Try enjoying it at around 14–16°C for the best experience.
